Herbertshire Castle (The Gala) Park – Pump Track Design Consultation

Herbertshire Castle Park in Dunipace is highly valued by local residents as an area of greenspace.

A local community group called Community Green Initiative has a long-standing involvement in the care, maintenance, and enhancement of the park, and led on the development of a ‘Master Plan and Feasibility Study’ for the site in 2017/18.

The masterplan set a vision for ‘creating a more welcoming, accessible and attractive park for all visitors’.

Following the successful delivery of a first phase of improvements in 2020, funding has been secured to create a pump track in an area between ‘The Chilli Hut’ and the play park.

A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by riders “pumping”—generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedaling or pushing. It was originally designed for the mountain bike and BMX scene, and now, due to concrete and ‘sealed surface’ constructions, can also be used with other wheeled equipment such as skateboards, scooters and accessible to wheelchairs (depending on the design).

Velosolutions, the company engaged to design and build the pump track, are wanting to consult with potential users of the facility to help refine a draft design (shown below).

An online presentation of the proposed design can be found at https://vimeo.com/738600248

We would welcome your feedback on the design outlined in this presentation to ensure it meets the needs of the local community. Please complete the online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/6KNRXQM by Wednesday 1st September 2022.
