Today sees the publication of Protecting Scotland, Renewing Scotland – the 2020/21 Programme for Government. While the document, understandably, focuses on the impact of and recovery from the Covid19 pandemic, it is reassuring to see the Scottish Government restating its commitments to climate change action, biodiversity and a green recovery.
In relation to the themes of the Central Scotland Green Network vision, we are particularly encouraged by the increase in resources for woodland creation (including innovative approaches to biodiversity and carbon), the recognition of green infrastructure as a key use for vacant and derelict land, the continued commitment to Climate Action Towns and the support for developing 20 minute neighbourhoods with quality greenspace and active travel links.
The Green Action Trust looks forward to working with the Scottish Government, local authorities, agencies, voluntary bodies and communities to develop the detail and deliver on these important commitments that will also help realise the Central Scotland Green Network vision and a wider green recovery for Scotland.
