Green Action Trust has been working with West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) since 2020 to develop plans for a suite of access and habitat improvements to Faifley Knowes, a 19 hectare mixed-habitat greenspace on the edge of Faifley and Hardgate.

An online consultation, carried out in May 2021, highlighted strong community support for a range of access and habitat improvement works and partners are delighted to have identified funding to carry out extensive upgrades to the path network across the site.

In 2022, a range of biodiversity improvement works were carried out, including woodland management, planting native trees and dealing with invasive species such as laurel and bracken.

Now works to improve access are getting under way, including:

  • Extensive path upgrades including path resurfacing and drainage work
  • Re-grading or removing steps and replacing with a slope where possible to make access easier for all users
  • Improvements to the entrance
  • Repairing or replacing bridges

Work is expected to begin on site from the week beginning 7th August and will take approximately 20 weeks to complete. Path closures will be necessary for health and safety reasons during path construction but diversions will be in place.

Green Action Trust has been assisting WDC with all elements of the project development, including running an online community consultation, developing proposals, detailed designs and costings for the work and tender preparation and issue. We will now be project managing the work on site on behalf of WDC.
